House Panel Sets First Hearing

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus announced that his panel's first hearing since Republicans won control of the House will be on jobs and the economy, the GOP's main theme for this Congress.

Bachus said the Jan. 26 hearing, "Promoting Economic Recovery and Job Creation: The Road Forward," will be the first in a series to review roadblocks that small businesses and community banks are facing, including the "mixed messages" being sent by regulators, "competitive disadvantages created by government policies that favor institutions deemed "too big to fail," and the national debt.

"Our small businesses need certainty from Washington in order to expand and hire workers. If we are to enjoy a full economic recovery, new job creation must come from the private sector," Bachus said in a press release.
