IDC Evaluates SAP Implementation Ecosystem

IBM and Accenture are the leaders in SAP application implementation, according to IDC’s new MarketScape report.

Of approximately 20 evaluation points, four areas primarily influenced the success of vendors in the ecosystem, says Ali Zaidi, senior analyst for IT consulting and systems integration strategies at IDC. The most influential factors for predicting success were:  implementation offerings, pricing model, delivery model and whether it can be delivered via cloud or software as a service.

“Traditional delivery models have always been on-premise, but now with the cost-crunch, cost-reduction more clients want further off shore services, says Zaidi. “So having further off-shore head count will also help vendors.”

The evaluated vendors were separated into groups of leaders, major players, contenders and those just entering the market, with IBM and Accenture coming out as clear leaders. “They are definitely the leaders in the market,” says Zaidi. “All of the other vendors are very close behind them though. There is very serious competition in this space, and not much differentiation in terms of capabilities.”

Other vendors evaluated in the study include Capgemini, CSC, Deloitte, Fujitsu, HCL AXON, HP-EDS, Infosys, PwC, TCS and Wipro, many of which fall into the major players category and only require slight improvement, according to the release.

“Opportunities for improvement include increasing SAP talent pool and offshore presence for some vendors, scaling up SAP related managed services and business consulting practices for some, and enhancing pricing structures and models,” Zaidi said.
