Sophia J. DeCouto has joined P&C insurer IFG Companies as VP and head of the primary property unit within its brokerage property division.
DeCouto comes to IFG Companies with a wealth of excess and surplus lines property underwriting experience, the company said, spanning primary property, shared and layered property and national accounts property. She will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the company’s primary property unit with a disciplined underwriting approach centered on profitable growth.
"Sophie brings to IFG Companies a strong combination of profit-focused underwriting and a client-focused approach to production. We are extremely pleased to have Sophie join IFG to lead the primary property unit of the brokerage property division," said Bob Linton, IFG chairman.
Prior to joining IFG, DeCouto was VP property with Axis Insurance Company, and held increasingly senior property underwriting positions with Allied World Assurance Co. She began her career in insurance as an insurance brokering assistant with Freisenbruch-Meyer Insurance Services Limited in Bermuda. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
