James Resigns as Grange Insurance President & CEO

Effective today, the Grange Insurance Board of Directors formally accepted the resignation of Bob James as president and CEO. In his stead, the board has elected Tom Welch, Grange Insurance's CFO, to serve as interim president and CEO.

After serving for a year as president and CEO of Grange, James resigned for personal reasons, and will return with his wife to the West Coast to fulfill family obligations and responsibilities.

"It is with great sadness that I leave such a great organization, and I wish everyone at the company the best in the future," James said in a statement. "Grange is positioned to be a winner in the very competitive market of insurance. I have no doubt the men and women of Grange will continue to excel at serving their agents and customers, and will maintain the strong track record of success that Grange has enjoyed for more than seventy-five years."

Tom Welch joined Grange Insurance in 2001 as president of the Grange Life Insurance Co. He was appointed CFO in 2008. During his career in the insurance industry, Welch has held executive positions with Farmers Group, Ohio State Life and Investors Guaranty Life Insurance Cos., Central Benefits Mutual Insurance Co. and Conseco Inc.
