Brooks Tingle, leader of John Hancock's insurance businesses, will become president and CEO of John Hancock, the financial services company, effective April 1. He succeeds Marianne Harrison, the previous president and CEO, who spent 20 years with Manulife, the parent of John Hancock itself.

Tingle also served as global leader of behavioral insurance for Manulife.

Tingle said in a statement: "I am grateful to have learned so much from Marianne and look forward to working with her on a seamless transition. As a life insurer, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to help people live longer, healthier, better lives. Doing so means we can create shared value between our shareholders, customers, and society – all aligned to improved longevity and better health outcomes. This is a concept we believe in so fundamentally that it is now a cornerstone of how we do business, and one that we intend to help shape the future of our company and industry."

Tingle, who previously held roles in marketing, strategy and operations at Hancock, led the insurer to implement and focus on behavioral insurance. The company launched its digital interactive wellness program, Vitality, in 2015.

Harrison, who spent years in several leadership positions, has been the president and CEO of John Hancock since 2017.

Roy Gori, president and CEO of Manulife said in a statement: "Marianne's strong passion for our people has been a hallmark of her tenure. Throughout her time leading John Hancock, she has helped transform the business with an unwavering focus on our customers, shareholders, and the communities in which we operate. … Thanks to his creativity, Brooks has led the evolution of our approach to behavioral insurance and introduced innovations to our product line, like our recently announced collaboration with GRAIL."

The company also recently partnered with Allstate to reward its Vitality members with points for safer driving through the Allstate Drivewise program.
