Kaiser's CIO Gets a Promotion

Kaiser Permanente has promoted CIO Philip Fasano to EVP and CIO.

Fasano says the promotion "officially recognizes that IT is a full partner in the organization." He will continue to head the IT side of Kaiser and will continue to report to chair and CEO George Halvorson, as well as Bernard Tyson, the new president and COO.

The move gives recognition to Fasano's work to complete the organization's enterprisewide HealthConnect initiative to install inpatient and ambulatory electronic health records (EHR), and a range of ancillary systems, across 489 Kaiser facilities since he arrived in 2007.

Today, Kaiser has 34 hospitals that have reached Stage 7—the highest level—of HIMSS Analytics' scale of EHR adoption.
