MassMutual Appoints Knudsen Assistant VP

Springfield, Mass. — Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual) announced it has appointed Howard Knudsen as assistant VP, technical operations for the company’s U.S. Insurance Group Underwriting division. In his new position, Knudsen will report to Shelby Hollister, VP and chief life underwriter for the U.S. Insurance Group.
 
Knudsen will be responsible for managing reinsurance matters, and legal and compliance issues. He also will oversee quality assurance processes and provide technical expertise to the department.
 
“Life insurance underwriting is a key component of MassMutual’s insurance operations, and we are very excited about the depth of experience and technical skills that Howard will bring to our team,” Hollister says.
 
Knudsen has more than 30 years of life underwriting and operational experience. Prior to joining MassMutual, he was a director of technical underwriting at Hartford Life Insurance. He also was VVP for First Great-West Life Annuity Co., where he was responsible for the start-up of the company in New York. Prior to that, he was assistant VP and chief underwriter of First Great-West Life Annuity in Denver, Colo., where he was responsible for all new business and underwriting operations.
