Meet the insurtech: Onyx Platform

Allison Arzeno, co-founder and CEO of Onyx Platform shared the following responses, which have been lightly edited.

What's the origin story of the company?

Onyx Platform was born out of firsthand experience with the inefficiencies and frustrations that plague insurance agencies trying to scale. Our team had previously played a central role in building a large insurance distribution platform, and we saw just how much time and money could be saved with a streamlined, modern solution. Most agencies today still rely on fragmented systems, outdated tools, and manual processes, and this holds them back from growing as fast as they could. We created Onyx Platform to give agencies the enterprise-grade technology they deserve, without the complexity that usually comes with it.

When was it founded and/or when was the product launched?

Onyx Platform was founded in January 2025, and our first product launched in April 2025.

Can you tell me about the founders/founding team?

Nick Howard and I founded Onyx Platform. We met as graduate students at MIT and later served as executives at Assurance IQ, a tech-driven insurance platform acquired by Prudential. The founding team is composed exclusively of technologists, who have all spent years working in the insurance space and deeply understanding the unique pain points agency leaders face.

Any meaning behind the company name?

Onyx, the stone, is known for transformation, strength, and clarity—qualities we strive to deliver to every customer we serve. Our platform empowers agencies with actionable insights, seamless workflows, and dependable infrastructure. Ultimately, we help agencies turn complexity into clarity, and challenge into growth.

How many employees?

We have 7 employees, plus Nick Howard and I.

Where is the company based?

We are based in Bellevue, Washington.

What pain points is the technology trying to solve?

Insurance agencies today juggle too many disconnected tools to manage leads, phone calls, compliance, and reporting. This fragmentation leads to missed opportunities, compliance gaps, wasted time, and lack of insight. Onyx eliminates the clutter by bringing everything into one seamless platform—CRM, dialer, call routing, analytics, and compliance tools—built specifically for the way agencies operate.

What funding rounds has the company had?

Onyx is currently backed by strategic angel investors with deep experience in insurance.

What's ahead?

We're just getting started. Our focus is on partnering with forward-thinking agencies, FMOs, and carriers who want to build stronger businesses with better technology. We're building deeper automation, expanding our AI capabilities, and launching flexible solutions to power distribution at scale. Our long-term vision is to help our customers grow faster, stay compliant, and serve their clients better.
