Merchants Insurance Group, a provider of personal and commercial insurance through a network of more than 650 independent agents, is deploying Agencyport Software’s AgencyPortal Web-based distribution platform.

The insurer is also using the vendor’s form-to-data automation service, Turnstile, to advance its commercial lines offering and provide additional Web capabilities to its independent agents quickly and easily.

Merchants needed an agile Web distribution system to keep up with changing market demands while also serving its long-term growth strategies. It also sought to expand its online presence and make it easier for agents to conduct business.

“When we first began researching front-end solutions, we considered a policy system that we could extend out to our agents,” said Peter Balisteri, CIO at Merchants Insurance Group. “It didn’t take long for us to understand, however, that a single system approach would take far longer to implement than we wanted.”

Having something that was built with an agent focus and that improves speed-to-market was key in the company’s decision making, Balisteri said.
