Metromile has hired Colleen Qiu as its new Vice President, Data.

Qiu will be responsible for analytics, business intelligence, data infrastructure and machine learning.

Prior to joining Metromile, Qiu was the Head of Global Data at Tesla, where she oversaw data related to customer experience and support, finance and planning, service engineering and supply chain and worked with driver experiences and operations, including body shops and repair services.

“When I turn on the TV, I always see ads from insurance companies,” Qiu told Metromile on a June 28 blog post on their site. “However, as an insurance customer, I haven’t yet experienced any improvements when shopping for insurance policies or taking care of car repairs. The innovation in the insurance industry is at its beginning, and Metromile can be that disrupter. Inevitably, technology and data are keys to success here. I would love to help Metromile reshape the insurance industry.”

Prior to Tesla, she worked at Albertsons and Poshmark, per the same blog post.
