Morris Named President of James River Insurance Co.

Richmond, Va. — Joseph Morris has been named president and CEO of James River Insurance Co., an excess and surplus lines insurance company with offices in Richmond, Va., and its affiliate James River Management Co. Inc., effective August 25, 2008. Morris has more than 28 years of insurance industry experience, and most recently served as president and CEO of The Philadelphia Contributionship.

Previously, Morris had been president of United America Indemnity Ltd., a specialty insurance holding company, and president and CEO of Penn-America Group, a specialty property/casualty company with extensive excess and surplus lines writings. Prior to serving as president and CEO of Penn-America Group Inc., he was its CFO.

“We are very pleased to have Joe Morris join our group as president and CEO of James River Insurance Company,” comments Adam Abram, president of James River Group Inc. “To have someone who has served as the CFO and CEO of a publicly traded specialty insurance group is very special. Joe brings to our team a unique blend of underwriting, marketing and financial skills.  We welcome his expertise and his leadership.”

“I am very pleased to be taking on this assignment," Morris says. "James River has carved out a distinctive niche for itself in the excess and surplus lines insurance market. I look forward to working with the remarkable team of people who have built the company. Together, I am confident we can expand upon what has been achieved already. I also look forward to meeting and working with the wholesale brokers who have been important to James River’s success.”
