P&C Insurer Union Mutual Adopts Cloud for Core

P&C Insurer Union Mutual has moved its existing core systems from ISCS to the cloud with support from Amazon Web Services, the company announced.

The move improves United Mutual’s flexibility in responding to CAT events and increased claims submission while creating an easier path to software updates, according to the companies.

UM, which provides insurance coverage across New England and New York, originally worked with ISCS to implement SurePower Innovation in 2012. At the time, it opted for local hosting of the vendor’s software due to a lack of maturity of cloud technologies. Early next year, the insurer will also move its document management tools and virtual desktop interface (VDI) to the cloud.

“Outsourcing operations of our core systems to ISCS was an easy decision to make,” said Gary Ouellette, executive vice president for UM, in a statement. “UM’s main business focus is insurance, and ISCS’ is delivering core solution and administration functionality. Thanks to this transition we will both be able to do what we do best, to the benefit of our agents and insureds.”
