Shake-up at Willis?

It’s not often that a CEO departs and leaves a vacancy in his wake—especially at a company of Willis Group Holdings’ stature, and especially in tandem with another revolving door at the CEO level.

Today, Willis announced Brendan McManus’ departure from his posts as CEO Willis Limited and Willis United Kingdom & Ireland, as well as Group COO Tim Wright’s promotion to Willis International CEO, where he will replace David Margrett.

Wright arrived at Willis in 2008 with myriad international industry experience to take up the position of group COO, which is now vacant as well. In his new executive position, he will work with current Willis International Chairman Sarah Turville. Wright’s former position will be handed off to the president of Willis North America, Joe Plumeri, and Group President Grahame Millwater.

In the company’s press release, Margrett is reported to have left “to pursue other interests.”

On the other hand, McManus’ exit is not treated with an explanation. According to the company, Millwater, on top of having a hand in picking up Wright’s vacated duties, will also oversee the UK/Ireland business unit until a successor is named, and a new CEO of Willis Limited will be named for FSA consideration in the coming weeks.
