Simploy gets digital assist from Pendella for life insurance sales

Simploy, a professional employer organization (PEO) that handles HR functions to provide insurance to employees, now has Pendella Technologies’ digital life insurance solution to power its offerings to companies.

“Employees can get the instant decisions and everything right there,” says Chassie Smith, director of operations at Simploy. “Or if they chat with an agent, Pendella can take care of all of those items as well.”

Pendella Technologies, launched in 2018, features a recommendation engine that evaluates potential policyholders to customize life insurance offerings for them. Simploy’s offerings include life insurance as well healthcare insurance, workers comp and employment practices liability. The company also provides HR support, benefits administration, payroll processing and tax filing services. 

Bob Gaydos, CEO and founder of Pendella Technologies, says, “We say to any PEO, you have an opportunity to participate in fixing a problem. People who don’t have adequate coverage work for you. … 99% of the time, they get a base amount of life insurance from you.”

PEOs have “all the data we need to do our work,” Gaydos adds. “We make this experience really fast and really convenient.”

Simploy got up and running with Pendella’s services in less than two hours, according to the companies. “We provide our database and it is slowly getting out there to the employee population that it's available to them and their family members as well,” says Smith. As a result, Simploy can provide its client companies with greater value for their employees, she added.

Pendella’s recommendation engine can evaluate potential policyholders by including factors beyond the conventional characteristics that are used. Simploy did not see this as a bias testing issue. 

“There’s some ‘knockout’ questions, when an employee goes to see if an insurance is something they qualify for,” says Smith. The Pendella services Simploy uses “has some knockout questions, that when an employee or anybody in that matter goes in to see if it's something that they qualify for, it's only going to show them what they are eligible for, based upon those knockout questions in the beginning. The product won’t show them something that gets their hopes up but at the end of the day, they can’t have.”
