State Farm Launches Image-Based Claims Submission

State Farm now offers customers the opportunity to submit an auto claim via a mobile device. Using object-recognition technology in the company’s Pocket Agent app, the new feature reduces the need for typing by using a smartphone’s camera to record important claims information. Customers can capture images of vehicles to process and populate make and model data automatically into claim-form fields.

"This new feature is part of our ongoing commitment to using the technology features of mobile devices in new and innovative ways to simplify the process for our customers," said Patty Gaumond, VP operations of enterprise digital strategy at State Farm.

Pocket Agent offers a number of features to registered State Farm customers, including the ability submit a claim from anywhere, State Farm said. The app uses customer information to simplify the auto claims process, selecting policy information, rather than requiring it to be typed in, saving time.

Additional features include the ability to view policies on a summary screen, including policy name, type and renewal date; deposit checks; record accident details, capture photos and submit information; view State Farm Bank accounts with balances; pay bills; search for a hotel, gas station, tow truck, taxi, locksmith or rental car by location or zip code; locate State Farm Select Service repair facilities; and search for and contact a State Farm agent.

Pocket Agent is available on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire. The insurer also offers Driver Feedback and Steer Clear mobile applications, as well as MoveTools for iPad and Android tablet users.
