Zurich Spain gets into IoT

Zurich has introduced water-damage prevention technology under a new brand name, Zurich Smart, in Spain.

Targeted toward small businesses, the offerings include sensor for offices that sends an alarm to the customer if it detects water on the floor of the building, and a “smart plug” for restaurants that responds to a loss of electricity. The office sensor works on a narrow-band network without Wi-Fi.

Zurich says the choice of launch location and target market was because "seventy percent of companies suffer at least one loss per year that could end their business," according to Stefano de Liguoro, Head of Digital Business at Zurich Spain.

“Identifying a loss as soon as soon as possible means that the impact on that SME is significantly reduced,” de Liguoro added.

“Thanks to connected technologies, we are giving better service to our customers by going beyond traditional insurance,” added Massimiliano De Carolis, Group Head of Home Ecosystem Business Development.
