As more adults are suffering from mental illness — and are increasingly willing to receive support or resources for their mental health — employers who provide these benefits in the workplace can help employees feel more valued.

National Financial Partners Corporation's 2025 Annual Benefits Trend Report examines mental health benefits in the workplace, based on a survey of 515 benefits decision-makers and 1,011 employees from various US organizations.

A majority of respondents (53%) offer mental health education and development courses. Other popular resources offered include in-person or telebehavioral health through health insurance (46%) and mental health care provided through another condition management solution (45%).

Companies are also offering well-being programs, the most popular being training on stress management, peer recognition programs, and training on compassion and empathy in the workplace.

While these programs cost money, many survey respondents are willing to pay. Eighty-one percent are paying more than $500 per employee on mental health resources and 89% are paying more than $50 per employee annually on mental wellbeing programs.

In 2025, a majority of respondents plan to keep their programs the same, while around 30% of respondents plan to grow their mental health benefits and support programs.

"When we think about burnout as being predictive of all of these costly problems to an employer, it makes us look at what are the most efficient areas for employers to intervene to reduce burnout, and we know it's work life," Joe Grasso, Lyra's vice president of workforce transformation, recently told EBN's Alyssa Place. "Getting the employer on board with the idea that if you solve how excess stress is making work life inefficient, you unlock more efficiency and better employee well-being."
