A high percentage of organizations identify enabling technologies such as big data/analytics, cloud services, cyber security, DevOps, and mobile applications as critical for driving business strategy for the remainder of 2018, according to a new report from IT services provider TEKsystems.
The company surveyed nearly 250 IT executives in the U.S., and security (58 percent), cloud computing (48 percent), big data/analytics (39 percent), DevOps (36 percent), and mobile apps (33 percent) were cited as being the most critical for driving or enabling organizations’ business strategy.
These areas are also key to spurring digital transformation efforts, the report said. While artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain have the potential to transform how business is run, many of these initiatives that are centered around next-generation technologies are still in the planning or early phases of adoption, it said.
This clarifies that organizations are still in the process of creating strong foundation for scale through three key pillars: cloud, data, and security, the report said. As such, these newer technologies are not considered critical for driving business strategy for the second half of the year.
The relatively high percentage of organizations focusing on DevOps and cloud computing provides further clarity that IT organizations are taking transformative steps to meet the agility and velocity demands of their business partners, the study said.
