Ellen O’Connor Joins DUAL Commercial as Top P&C Underwriter

Ellen O’Connor has joined DUAL Commercial, the U.S. subsidiary of London-based Hyperion Insurance Group’s DUAL underwriting arm, as chief underwriting officer, property.

O’Connor comes to DUAL from American Safety Insurance, where she served as SVP property since May 2012.  Prior to that, she spent 17 years at wholly owned Crum  & Forster subsidiary Seneca Insurance, during which time she launched both Inland Marine and E&S Property product lines.

Her experience in Marine insurance also includes stints at Hartford Insurance, where she managed Inland and Ocean operation for the New York City territory, and nine years on the board of directors of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association.

O’Connor’s appointment to the newly created position reflects DUAL’s broader global effort to expand its market footprint both geographically and in its product offerings.  This expansion includes new excess flood facilities and a new E&O program unveiled in the second half of 2014.

O’Connor will report to Justin Tweedie, CEO of DUAL Commercial, who joined the company in October 2013 as part of its acquisition of PGI International.

“With over 25 years in the Excess and Surplus and Inland Marine business, Ellen brings a proven track record to DUAL in these key lines of business,” said Tweedie.  “We look forward to diversifying our property products, which will add value to our clients and trading partners.”

DUAL is the largest global underwriting agency in the world and Lloyd's largest international coverholder.
