Employers would switch brokers because of AI, other tech: Zywave

A failure to adopt technology and AI-powered tools appears among the top reasons an employer would consider switching insurance brokers, according to Zywave, a provider for insurance distribution technology.

The 2026 Broker Services Survey suggests that clients are expecting a baseline level of technology options from brokers.

"Employers aren't asking brokers to choose between technology and advice. They want both — brokers who use AI-powered tools to work faster and more accurately, and who still show up as a strategic partner. Brokers who treat those as separate tracks are the ones most likely to fall behind," Martin Simoncic, CEO at Zywave, said in a press release.

Ninety-six percent of C-suite respondents say it is important for commercial insurance brokers to help their organization develop and refine risk-management strategies. Only 58% said their broker fully delivers on that, according to the survey.

The top commercial insurance challenges now include, for the first time this year, coverage needs for emerging risks. Slow response times and inconsistent communication are also top reasons an employer would switch brokers.

Premium costs remain the top commercial insurance concern, cited by 70% of respondents. Coverage needs for emerging risks also became a part of the top commercial insurance challenges for the first time this year.

Looking forward, businesses suggested needing additional support and guidance around the changing insurance market, addressing specific risks and exposures and managing cyber risk

The survey includes responses from 1,400 employers in the U.S. in a variety of industries including nonprofits, manufacturing and construction.
