Esurance Launches Mobile App for Usage-Based Insurance

Esurance has released a new mobile app for its DriveSense UBI offering. The app, currently available only in Utah, will launch in more states later this year, the company said.

Using DriveSense mobile, drivers will receive notifications that track habits in real time using a risk meter. Other mobile features include a detailed trip history widget that stores users last 100 trips as well as automated text messages to people attempting to call or text while driving.

"Transitioning to a mobile platform makes it even simpler for our customers to join the DriveSense program and get access to real-time reports immediately following their trip. And that can help them make smart choices about their driving behavior," said John Erickson, vice president of analytics and research at Esurance, in a statement. "We continue to see telematics playing an important role in our product portfolio because of the benefits it brings our customers."

Esurance's DriveSense program uses telematics to reward users with premium discounts for safe driving. After signing up, customers receive an initial five percent discount with opportunities to earn greater personalized discounts after their first policy term.
