Former Aflac Employee Charged with Fraud

A former Aflac employee and a co-conspirator have been indicted and charged with conspiracy to commit health care fraud and health care fraud, stealing close to $1 million from the supplemental insurer, numerous news outlets report.

Federal prosecutors say Danielle Mahone, who worked in the supplemental insurer's claims department from late 2002 to early 2006, and Travis Washington, allegedly conspired with others between July 2007 and February 2009 to file insurance information they knew would be used for false claims.

“Aflac constantly reviews its claims for fraudulent activities and works with authorities to make sure anyone abusing the system is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Jon Sullivan, Aflac external communications manager, tells INN.
