GEICO Looks to Vets for Tech Staff

GEICO has announced a program for veterans interested in IT careers.

Based at GEICO’s corporate headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md., the Veteran's IT Professional Development program is a 12-month program that brings veterans on as full-time GEICO employees. In the program, veterans gain skills and experience required to perform as an IT professional through a blend of classroom work and real-world experience.

Participants work in all areas of GEICO’s IT department, including information services, systems operations and internet business divisions. GEICO IT leaders work as mentors, providing supplemental training depending on project assignments.

"Providing these men and women with real career opportunities is very important to us," said Greg Kalinsky, GEICO's senior vice president and CIO. "The Veterans IT Development program will help build their foundation in IT from the ground up through comprehensive training, mentoring and hands-on technical experience.
