Indiana Farmers Mutual Names CEO-Elect

Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. has named Kimberly Smith, J.D., CPCU, as CEO-elect. Smith will assume the role of president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2014, upon the retirement of the company’s current president and CEO, Daniel Stone.

Indiana Farmers says Smith is a 32-year insurance industry veteran who has been with the company since 2000. She currently serves as the company’s EVP and legal counsel. Stone is a current member of the company’s Board of Directors and will continue his board service beyond 2013.

Smith has served in numerous leadership positions in the insurance, higher education, and not-for-profit industries, says Indiana Farmers. Her insurance career began in 1980, when she joined Indiana Insurance Co. in Indianapolis as a claims attorney. She came to Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. in 2000 as VP of human resources and general counsel. She was elected EVP and general counsel in May 2012.

Indiana Farmers adds that, in addition to her service in the insurance industry, Smith is the chair-elect of the Indiana State University Foundation Board of Directors, and a current member of the Board of Directors for Sycamore Foundation Holdings and the Indiana Guaranty Association.
