Liberty Insurance Rolls Out Telematics in Singapore

Liberty Insurance, a Singapore-based carrier wholly owned by Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced a new telematics application for customers.

The app, DriveWell, developed by Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) measures driving skills in five categories: braking, acceleration, cornering, speeding and phone distraction. Drivers also can earn prizes through weekly competitions and receive driving tips after trips are logged and a performance score is given.

"By becoming more aware of their behaviors, drivers can learn to be safer behind the wheel,” said Chang Sucheng, chief executive officer of Liberty Insurance, in a statement. “[DriveWell] is an innovative way to make safe driving fun and exciting. Drivers can get useful feedback, see how they compare with other drivers and challenge their friends,"

Liberty Insurance joins Japanese insurer Aloi Nissay Dowa and Ohio-based Electric Insurance Company as CMT’s latest customers. CMT's telematics program reportedly improves driver behavior; reducing both hard braking and speeding by 20% within 30 days of use, according to Liberty Insurance.
