MassMutual Names VP of Underwriting Operations

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., a mutual life insurance company run for the benefit of its members and participating policyholders, has named David Acselrod as VP, underwriting operations.

Prior to joining MassMutual, Acselrod held a variety of positions with the businesses of MetLife Inc., most recently as VP, small market leader, group insurance. He also has held executive positions with the former Chase Manhattan Bank, now JPMorgan Chase & Co., management and technology consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and The Travelers Cos., where he began his career in 1988.

Acselrod is responsible for the development of MassMutual’s overall underwriting operations strategy, which includes oversight of the day-to-day operations of the company’s life and disability income underwriting and new business departments; the implementation of continuous underwriting process improvement practices; and ensuring that all risk selection practices are in compliance with regulatory requirements. He reports to Roger Putnam, senior VP and COO of MassMutual’s U.S. insurance business.

“We are excited about David joining our leadership team due to his strategic vision and commitment to growing our business while maintaining a keen focus on our policyholders,” said Putnam. “His experience across a number of disciplines within the life and individual disability insurance businesses will further strengthen our underwriting operations.”
