Fireman's Fund Insurance Company announced today that Frederick Matteson has joined the company as senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO), overseeing all information technology operations.

Matteson brings more than 20 years of technical and business management experience to Fireman's Fund. Prior to joining the insurer, Matteson was executive vice president at Charles Schwab, where he was most recently the segment manager for one of Schwab's largest retail segments. Matteson joined Charles Schwab in 1996 in the Information Technology organization and led the effort to develop Schwab's enterprise-wide applications architecture and development framework in support of their Web trading initiative. He also managed an applications development organization responsible for the firm's financial products technologies covering capital markets and trading, brokerage clearing, mutual funds, and international.
Prior to Schwab, Matteson held a number of key positions on Wall Street, balancing his career between marketing and technology. He has worked in fixed income marketing at Lehman Brothers and as vice president of strategic marketing for MarketVision, a software company that provides products for traders. Matteson was also the principal responsible for the support of all technology assets for Morgan Stanley worldwide. Matteson began his career as a communications officer in the United States Marine Corps, and then as a sales and marketing manager in AT&T.
Matteson is the past-president of the board of directors of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and serves on the board of advisors for ThruPoint Communications, Cross Link Capital, Webify Solutions, and the editorial board of Business Week International Events.
