MetLife to Build Technology Hub in N.C. Research Triangle Area

MetLife Inc. announced plans for building a technology hub in North Carolina’s Research Triangle area, furthering the company's growing presence in the state.

According to MetLife, the hub will be located in Cary, N.C., and will be coupled with the insurer's new U.S. retail headquarters in Charlotte. In sum, the moves represent a $125.5 million investment in North Carolina. This is on top of the $1.2 billion in insurance funds that MetLife has invested in North Carolina housing, agriculture, commercial real estate, health care and utilities.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory says MetLife's efforts will create 2,600 jobs in the state by the end of 2015. As of now, MetLife says that more than 1,000 positions will be open across various functions, including engineering, development, app maintenance, IT risk and security, and tech support.
