New York Life Appoints Business Information Officer

David Castellani has been appointed business information officer and SVP of New York Life. He now is responsible for translating business goals into clear enterprise technology solutions, the company said, driving process improvements across company operations and establishing consistent governance over IT initiatives. Castellani now reports to Frank Boccio, EVP and chief administrative officer.

“We are fortunate to have an individual of Dave Castellani’s business experience and passion for technology to fill this new and important role,” Boccio said. “Among Dave’s areas of focus will be the oversight of large technology initiatives, the development of a comprehensive data strategy, and the continued evolution of enterprise technology’s service capabilities.”

Previously, Castellani lead New York Life Retirement Plan Services, provider of defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), integrated DB/DC and Taft-Hartley services. He joined the company in 2011 from EWM LLC, a wealth management firm, where he was a managing director and chief marketing officer. Prior to that, he worked for Prudential Retirement, CIGNA Corporation and two technology firm start-ups.

Patrick Murphy will assume Castellani’s responsibilities within retirement plan services. Murphy previously was managing director and head of sales for RPS since 2011. He joined the company in 2004 as director, Northeast sales manager and was responsible for the New England and New York sales team.

“Pat Murphy is an outstanding choice to lead RPS, where he has played a key role in fueling our growth since joining nearly a decade ago. We are looking forward to many more contributions from Pat in his new role,” said Drew Lawton, senior managing director, New York Life’s Investments Group.

Murphy previously was sales VP for American Express Retirement Plan Services, VP in Putnam Investments’ Defined Contribution business and a senior account representative with Diversified Investment Advisors.
