Philadelphia Insurance Cos. Name Chief Underwriting Officer

Philadelphia Insurance Cos. (PHLY), which specializes in property/casualty insurance for niche markets, announced the promotion of John Glomb to chief underwriting officer. Glomb ascends to the position after most recently serving as SVP of underwriting.

“For the past several years, John has been an outstanding leader of PHLY’s Underwriting operation; helping to maintain our disciplined approach, competitive pricing and effectively manage our exposures,” says Chris Maguire, president & COO. “His past contributions managing our existing products while helping to create new, attractive products for emerging markets in a challenging economic environment is why I’m confident in his ability to assume this new role and oversee the continued success of our underwriting operations.”

Glomb joined PHLY in 2007 as SVP of the management and professional liability division. In 2009, he took on responsibility for PHLY’s entire underwriting department. Prior to PHLY, Glomb worked for six years at Banc of America Securities LLC in their financial institutions investment banking practice.

Prior to that, he worked at National Union, the management and professional liability subsidiary of American International Group as a regional VP.

“I am excited for the opportunity to help lead Philadelphia Insurance and maintain our reputation as one of the premiere companies in the insurance industry,” Glomb says. “There is a competitive culture to continuously improve and be innovative, which has helped PHLY grow and prosper for nearly 50 years. I look forward to contributing to that vision as we head toward another 50 years.”
