State Farm Promotes Its Banking Business<@SM>

With public sentiment souring against banks in general, and rising fees in particular, insurers may sense a business opportunity.

Bloomington, Ill.-based State Farm is promoting the benefits of its online bank, which it established in 1998, noting its free debit cards, free checking accounts and rebate program for ATM fees.

“As banks across the industry struggle with the decision to raise fees, I’m proud to say State Farm Bank is committed to keeping fees low for our customers,” said Andrea O’Connor, State Farm Bank Customer Experience Executive. “We know that features like free debit cards and convenient mobile banking tools make us an attractive banking choice.”

O’Connor said in addition to existing online and mobile banking tools, the company is launching a ‘switch kit’ in 2012 to make the process of transferring bill pay information from an old bank account to State Farm Bank easier for new customers.
