New York Life Insurance Company promoted SVP Sue Ericksen to the role of CIO today.

A staff of more than 1,000 technology professionals will be under Ericksen’s direction as she becomes responsible for “setting the strategic technology direction of New York Life” as head of the Corporate Information Department, according to the company’s release. In this new role, she will report to EVP and chief administrative officer Frank Boccio.

“While Sue is extremely tech savvy, she also has a keen knowledge and understanding of business strategy and the practical application of new technologies in support of our businesses,” said Boccio.

Ericksen replaces former CIO Eileen Slevin, who retired this month after 34 years with the insurer, serving her last four years as CIO. Ericksen, meanwhile, has been with New York Life since 2009, filling the role of CTO and SVP. Prior to that, she held similar roles at Merrill Lynch Banks and CitiGroup.
