The Hartford Develops SRS COMPWORKS to Resolve Challenging Workers' Compensation Claims

Specialty Risk Services (SRS), The Hartford Financial Services Group's third party claim administrator, has added SRS COMPWORKS to its arsenal of resources to help clients obtain optimal return-to-work results in workers' compensation. SRS COMPWORKS is a consortium of client tools and national and regional vendors brought together to address the most challenging return-to- work situations and help workers' compensation claims close faster and at a lower cost. "We developed SRS COMPWORKS to handle the small minority of situations that tend to account for the majority of workers' compensation claim dollars and for which the usual rules don't apply," says Nancy Brennan, vice president of Specialty Risk Services. "Using claim and case management best practices developed by SRS, as well as enhanced medical-only practices and online disability tools, SRS is able to obtain industry-leading outcomes for its clients.

"Increasingly employers have come to appreciate the impact of an employee's medical absence as both a human cost and an enterprise cost. SRS works in partnership with our clients to help them meet their risk management goals, and SRS COMPWORKS is an important part of the process," she adds.

SRS COMPWORKS includes an evolving network of vendor partners and expert SRS resources and online tools to help return injured workers to the job as safely and quickly as possible. Available tools include proactive loss avoidance tools, on-site client training, online communication, analysis and measurement tools, online job descriptions for transitional jobs and SRS return-to-work coordinators.

The wide variety of tools and expert support in SRS COMPWORKS can be used to solve an array of issues. Some of the tools, vendors or SRS support offer potential solutions for individual claims that have unique return-to-work challenges. Others provide global options for clients with countrywide or regional return-to-work challenges.

"Flexibility is critical to clients looking to solve the most problematic workers' compensation claims, and COMPWORKS was created to provide that tailored support," says Brennan. "When an employer can return an injured worker to the job sooner, it can bolster productivity, increase employee morale, eliminate the need for replacement workers and potentially reduce litigation. With SRS COMPWORKS, an employer is able to use the resources we offer to create customized solutions."
