The Hartford Offers Online Will Preparation

Simsbury, Conn. - While a last will and testament is one of the most vital legal documents that can help protect a family's assets, almost 58% of adults do not have a will, according to recent research by legal publisher Martindale- Hubbell. To address this need, The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. is offering EstateGuidance, a new online will preparation service that makes it easy and affordable for Americans to prepare a will. EstateGuidance can be purchased by new customers of The Hartford's group basic and supplemental life policies covering more than 1,000 employees or members.

"The Hartford recognizes that life insurance and a will are both important ways for Americans to protect their assets and provide for their loved ones," says Dick Mucci, executive vice president and director of The Hartford's group benefits division. "The problem that often arises, however, is that many Americans might be intimidated by the time and expense of preparing a will. That's unfortunate, but preventable. EstateGuidance eliminates both of these concerns and ensures they safeguard their families."

The Hartford's EstateGuidance is a Web-based tool that takes users through a series of questions and then creates a customized, legally-binding will that outlines their final wishes about property inheritance, child guardianship, or estate management. Once the drafting process is complete, the Web site provides instructions for downloading and executing the will to make it legal and valid in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Customer service is provided by fully-licensed attorneys.

Wills made with EstateGuidance can be amended at no cost during the first 30 days after the will's creation. Each will, including any changes, may be stored for five years, and the confidentiality of all information is securely protected.

EstateGuidance is offered by The Hartford through ComPsych, a provider of employee assistance programs including behavioral health, work/life and crisis intervention services.
