Unum Appoints Chief Risk Officer

Unum, a provider of financial protection benefits in the United States and the United Kingdom, has named Steven Zabel as SVP and chief risk officer, effective Aug. 5. Zabel will report to Richard McKenney, EVP and CFO.

Unum says Zabel will be responsible for the oversight of Unum’s enterprise risk management program and will relocate to the company’s Chattanooga headquarters. He joins Unum from Genworth Financial, where he was most recently SVP of long-term care insurance and, previously, CFO for insurance products and SVP of audit. He began his career at Ernst & Young.
