Media, Pa. - A network of insurance and financial Web sites is creating an online national directory of business insurance agents, a move that observers are calling another ripple in a movement to expand insurance distribution on the Internet.
The new site, called InsureMyWork.com, joins a suite of sites operated by the two-year-old FindLocalInsurance.com. The company based the new offering on the established sites that began with InsureMyHouse.com, says Megan Kahmer, FindLocalInsurance.com CEO.
“We believe that there are more and more people that are turning to the Internet for insurance information or quotes, but we also believe that they really want to have a local agent,” Kahmer says. “This is how FindLocalInsurance.com and the network was founded.”
Although the company has declared the new business insurance site officially open, the home page link to a search engine that tracks down local business insurance agents has yet to go online. Similar links for other types of insurance are operating on the company’s affiliated insurance sites.
The company says it is taking listing orders from business insurance agents and expects to fill out the business insurance site in the next several months, Kahmer says. The business insurance site will list one agent per zip code but will limit each agent to listings in 10 zip codes, she notes.
The company also is working with insurance and financial Web sites and small business associations to provide a national online resource to business owners and insurance agents, says Kahmer.
Visitors to the new site are greeted with the reassurance that “if you own a business, you’ve come to the right place.” Business insurance articles offered on the site cover “General Liability,” “Professional Liability” and “Additional Guides.”
Clicking on the site’s “Local Insurance” link takes the user to FindLocalInsurance.com, where a menu lists directories and articles for several types of insurance and financial services. The FindLocalInsurance.com page, which carries ads for insurers, also offers links for insurance news and a history of insurance.
