2013 Maurice Herndon Scholarship Awarded

Independent life and health insurance agent Josh Gilkerson, of Fischer, Rounds & Associates in Pierre, S.D., was awarded the 2013 Maurice Herndon Scholarship award at the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokerage legislative conference in Washington, D.C.

“The national Young Agents Committee is thrilled to have Josh join us for his national first Big ‘I’ Legislative Conference,” said Jason Cass, national Young Agents Committee chairman and owner of JDC Insurance in Centralia, Ill. “His hard work and dedication to the industry have already launched his promising career. We forward to working with him at the national level.”

Gilkerson is a business management graduate from Black Hills State University and an active member of the Young Agents of South Dakota and the Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota (IIASD), where he organizes and leads networking, lobbying and social activities.

“It was wonderful to have Josh come to Washington, D.C. with the South Dakota Big ‘I’ delegation,” said Jerry Diamond, IIASD EVP. “He is an excellent example to our young agents and it’s been an honor to work with him.”

The $1,000 scholarship award is presented in honor of Maurice Herndon, who led the Big “I” Washington D.C. office in 1949.

“Young agents like Josh are the future of our industry and it’s important for them to attend the annual Big ‘I’ Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.,” says Robert Rusbuldt, Big “I” president & CEO. “The legislative conference is an opportunity for our young agents to network and interact with agents from across the country, top insurance carriers, other industry leaders and their representatives in Congress.”
