Accenture, MIT Rally Big Data and Analytics Researchers

Accenture and MIT are attempting to rally the analytics community to solve some of the world's most complex business and social problems. The duo's Big Data and analytics rally cry started this week with a request for proposals specifically aimed at MIT faculty and researchers.

Accenture and MIT have a longstanding Alliance in Business Analytics -- led by Accenture's Narendra Mulani and MIT's David Simchi-Levi. Previous initiatives have studied social media causal monitoring, learning and revenue optimization, equipment failure prediction, and fraud detection and prevention. The next round of research is set to start in early 2015.

The latest research charters currently include:

  • Early Warning Detection – Industrial Operations: The goal of the project is to identify approaches to detect problems with new product launches as quickly as possible.
  • Collateral Optimization – Risk Management: The goal of the project is to identify optimization techniques to improve a bank’s ability to allocate its collateral resources effectively.

More charters will be added in the coming weeks.
Both tenured and non-tenured MIT professors are expected to participate in the research. Proposals are due Nov. 30, with projects set to begin as early as January 2015. All projects will be completed within 12 months of their approval.

Accenture ranks among the world's Top 10 Big Data Companies in terms of annual revenues from Big Data projects.
