Arch Insurance names chief claims officer and other roles

Arch Insurance names Nora Deveau, who joined the company in 2005, as chief claims officer. Deveau succeeds Patrick Nails who will retire after being with the company since 2004. Deveau was most recently the deputy chief claims officer.

"Nora is an exceptional leader whose technical expertise and steady, respected leadership style make her uniquely suited for this role," said Matt Shulman, CEO of Arch Insurance North America, in a statement. "She has built a reputation for her acumen in handling large and complex claims while maintaining a clear focus on delivering for our customers."

Arch Insurance International named Sophie Law as cyber underwriting manager. Law, who was most recently senior cyber underwriter, will oversee underwriting activities across the cyber portfolio. She joined the company in 2019 and held previous roles at Barbican and Hiscox.

Arch Reinsurance Group also announced William Soares, who joined the company in 2006, as CEO in Bermuda. Jon Schriber, who joined in 2023, has been named as CEO in the U.S. They will both report to Jerome Halgan, the CEO of Arch Global Reinsurance Group.

Canopius appoints U.S. CEO

Canopius Group announced Nadine Moore as chief executive officer of its U.S. business. Moore will take over leadership in September. She was most recently managing director and senior partner at Boston Consulting Group. 

Neil Robertson, Group CEO at Canopius, said, in a press release: "Nadine is exactly the kind of leader we need to take our U.S. business to the next level. She brings deep market expertise, a strong track record of delivery, and outstanding relationships across the industry. I am confident she will play a key role in helping Canopius continue to mature, professionalize and develop both our retail and wholesale businesses in the U.S. as we pursue our growth ambitions."

Canopius also announced Melanie M. Brown as its new head of U.S. claims. Brown was most recently head of complex and specialty claims at Munich Re Specialty North America. She also previously held senior claims positions at Markel. 

The Hartford appoints Randy Larsen to board

The Hartford announced Randy Larsen will serve on the company's board of directors. Larsen will serve on the finance, investment and risk management committee, plus the nominating and corporate governance committees. Larsen spent 13 years with AssuredPartners and was most recently CEO from 2023 through the acquisition of the company by Gallagher in 2025. 

The Hartford's Chairman and CEO Christopher Swift, said in a press release: "His extensive experience leading a major insurance brokerage, strong financial acumen and broad understanding of the insurance marketplace will bring valuable perspectives to our board. We look forward to benefiting from Randy's insights as we continue to execute our strategy, enhance our competitive position and deliver long-term value for our shareholders."

Nationwide Institutional Life names product strategy lead

Nationwide Institutional Life Insurance announced Justin Lee as product strategy and delivery lead. Lee joined the company in 2002 and was most recently a senior associate vice president on the Nationwide Financial Finance team.

Jessica Dowdy, president of Institutional Life Insurance, said in a statement: "Justin is a strong leader who brings a combination of industry expertise, strategic vision and operational excellence to this role. I am confident that with the addition of Justin's leadership, the ILI team will continue to build on its successes and strong performance across the industry." 

USAA names SVP and head of government relations

USAA announced Mara Motherway as senior vice president and head of government relations. Motherway joins the company from Lockheed Martin, where she was vice president of strategy and business development for Lockheed Martin aeronautics portfolio. She was also previously at Booz Allen Hamilton, Peraton, Epirus and BAE systems.

Juan C. Andrade, President and CEO, USAA, said in a press release. "Mara brings exceptional experience across military service, government affairs and business leadership. She understands how public policy shapes the lives of our members and will help strengthen USAA's voice and influence on the issues that matter most to the military community and the long-term success of our association."

Mile Auto acquires The Insurance House

Mile Auto, a managing general agent, acquired The Insurance House. The combined organization will operate under the Mile Auto and Insurance House brands. 

Fred Blumer, CEO of Mile Auto, said in a statement: "Mile Auto contributes industry-leading technology and broad distribution, while Insurance House brings decades of market experience and trusted agency relationships. Together, we're creating a stronger organization that delivers greater value to policyholders, agents, and carrier partners while positioning us for accelerated growth."
