Assurant, Inc. has announced Gene Mergelmeyer will take over duties as chief operating officer, effective July 1, as part of an ongoing company realignment strategy.
Mergelmeyer, a 18-year veteran at the company, has served as president and chief executive officer of Assurant Specialty Property since 2007. In his new role, he will oversee all operations of Assurant’s business lines worldwide.
“As our new COO, Gene will drive our competitive advantage to ensure we seize opportunities by capitalizing on market trends and meeting consumer demands,” said Alan Colberg, Assurant’s president and CEO, in a press release. “Gene’s strong leadership has been critical to growing the Assurant Specialty Property business, where he has consistently delivered solid results and driven its expansion into attractive adjacent markets such as multi-family housing and mortgage solutions.”
The company also promoted Assurant Solutions COO Mike Anderson to interim president, effective immediately. He replaces former CEO and president Craig Lemasters who will retire this summer.
