IIABNY Reaches Out to Future Insurance Employees

The industry constantly hears about the problem of retiring knowledge workers and that young people aren’t drawn to insurance careers. The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) is doing something about it. On December 7 the association hosted more than 50 high school students who participated in InVEST, an insurance industry classroom-to-career education program.

The students from Dryden, Groton, and McGraw High Schools and Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg spent the day learning about career options, touring the office, meeting with IIABNY staff and gathering information about the work the New York insurance producer trade association is doing in social media, blogging and video podcasting.

Kemper Corporation staff members were also onsite to discuss their roles in claims and underwriting and share personal stories on how they got to their current positions.
