Insurance Vendor Ebix Buys HealthConnect Systems

Insurance software vendor Ebix, serving payers in multiple industries, has acquired HealthConnect Systems, a vendor of online insurance exchange software. Terms were not disclosed.

Norwalk, Conn.-based HealthConnect sells private-label Web portals to medical and ancillary health insurers (dental, vision, life, limited medical & gap coverage) for automating quotes, enrollment and renewals. It also operates a multi-carrier network to distribute rate, benefit and physician data, and to provide enrollment connectivity and market intelligence. HealthConnect's exchange processes about 12,000 quote requests daily from 6,700 agents in 19 states, according to the company.

The acquisition continues Ebix's strategy to provide end-to-end solutions in every industry it serves, says CEO Robin Raina. The company in February 2011 acquired medical information content vendor A.D.A.M. The vendor's content portfolio, targeting consumers, providers and insurers, includes a medical reference library and decision support tools such as symptom identification, risk assessments, wellness calculators, a drug interaction checker, exam scheduling recommendations and interactive views of the human body.
