LOMA Issues E-L&H Underwriting Textbook

Atlanta - LOMA has released a new edition of Life and Health Insurance Underwriting, for the first time in downloadable PDF format, the life research and education association reports.   The revised textbook introduces risk assessment principles applied to underwriting individual and group life and health insurance and provides a thorough introduction to underwriting terminology and concepts. The text is assigned reading for LOMA’s underwriting course, UND 386.

"Making this new text available as a download in conjunction with a student’s examination enrollment gives LOMA’s participants worldwide instant access to the study materials when they enroll for the underwriting exam,“ said Kathy Milligan, FLMI, ACS, ALHC, vice president of LOMA’s education and training division.  “Giving participants the ability to store the text electronically and to print their own study materials as needed means these busy professionals have yet another option for career development to enhance their job performance and improve company operations,” Milligan added. “However, those who prefer to study from a traditional printed and bound text still have the option of purchasing one.”

Life and Health Insurance Underwriting, 2nd edition, which was revised by LOMA senior associates Mary Bickley, J.D., FLMI, FFSI, CLU, AIRC, ACS, AIAA, AAPA, ARA and Harriett Jones, J.D., FLMI, AIRC, ACS, incorporates feedback from underwriting experts across the globe to reflect current industry practices and standards. The text discusses the underwriting job position; the legal aspects of underwriting individual and group insurance; individual underwriting activities and technology; medical, financial and personal factors that are assessed by individual life insurance underwriters; and underwriting individual health insurance, among many other topics.

Access to an online PDF of Life and Health Insurance Underwriting, 2nd edition, and to the online Test Preparation Guide (TPG) for the course is automatically included with enrollment for the UND 386 exam. The printed and bound version of the new text is available through LOMA’s distributors.
