MetLife Hires VP of Government Relations

Jason Cole will join MetLife as VP of federal government relations as of Aug. 22, 2013. He will report to Heather Wingate, head of federal and state lobbying.

Cole currently manages the office budget and serves as chief policy advisor for Congressman Jim Himes, Democrat from the 4th district in Connecticut. Cole has advised the congressman on fiscal and tax reform issues, MetLife said, including developing legislative strategies for portions of the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform bill.

“I am very pleased that Jason is joining the MetLife team in Washington,” Wingate said. “His broad public and private sector experience, coupled with his knowledge of the legislative process and financial issues, will help MetLife to continue to influence public policy and advocate for responsible financial regulation.”

From 2003 to 2009, Cole was executive director of the U.S. office of public policy for UBS Americas, MetLife said, where he developed and promoted UBS’s policy agenda at the federal level. From 1999 to 2003, Cole was legislative director for Congressman Dennis Moore (D-KS), where he formulated and implemented legislative strategy and counseled Moore on tax, energy, trade and telecommunications policy. Prior, he was a financial analyst for the Small Business Administration.
