Octo Telematics has added four carriers, including AXA Insurance, to its free smartphone driving app Octo U, the company announced today.
The mobile app offers users premium discounts from a number of different insurance providers for good driving. Insurers offer up to 10% discounted quotes to drivers whose driving scores qualify, according to the company. Octo U has more than 136,000 downloads since launching in August 2015 and is supported by iGO4 Partners and Brake, a UK road safety charity.
“We are putting control back into the hands of drivers,” said Fabio Sbianchi, CEO, Octo Telematics, in a statement. “We hope that by better understanding what makes a good driver and with the incentive of a reduced insurance quote, users of Octo U will be safer on the roads.”
Octo U monitors and scores driver behavior by measuring speed, braking intensity and acceleration. GPS and accelerometer technology is utilized to gather trip information. No matter the driver score, the application sends users driving tips on how to improve.
