Progressive Unveils Web 2.0 Site

Mayfield Village, Ohio — The Progressive Group of Insurance Cos., who introduced the first incarnation of its Web site in 1995, has unveiled its new Web 2.0 site, which they tout as the industry’s first.

“This is about watching and reacting to trends to keep our site relevant to all users,” says Toby Alfred, GM, customer acquisition for Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Progressive. “It moves progressive.com content from static to interactive.”

Progressive’s new Web site is designed to feature easier navigation, more personalization and customization, additional and easier-to-use video content and more visuals throughout.

“The redesign lets users get more from their visits; share their experiences; and have their progressive.com experience delivered to them in blogs, RSS readers and personal home pages,” Alfred explains.

The site also features content channels—www.progressive.com has joined forces with industry experts to bring exclusive content to the Web.

Ziff Davis Enterprise, a leading IT media company based in New York, will provide weekly content for the Web site covering vehicle technology such as portable GPS, in-car DVDs, hybrids and more on the site’s new AutoTech channel. Lonely Planet Publications will provide weekly Driving Destinations articles, including great places in the United States to visit, explore and experience. In addition, Progressive experts will provide weekly content to help readers better understand how car insurance works.

Progressive.com also now makes it easier to find a local independent agent, and to get a quote directly from the company and from an agent. The new Web site offers more information about all of Progressive’s products including personal and commercial auto, motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and personal watercraft insurance. The site also includes more information about coverages available through Progressive from other companies including pet health insurance, homeowners, renters and condo insurance.

“In 1995, we brought car insurance to the Web,” says Alfred. “This iteration makes information personal, relevant and easiest-to-use.”
