Symetra Names Chief Actuary

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Symetra Financial has appointed Tommie Brooks as vice president and chief actuary. He will assume leadership of the Actuarial Division from Margaret Meister, who is relinquishing the post but continues to serve as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

In his new position, Brooks will serve as senior manager of actuarial functions, guiding the company's product pricing strategies, insurance risk analysis and reserving.

Previously, Brooks served as managing actuary for Symetra's life insurance subsidiaries. He began his career with Symetra in 1992 as an actuarial student in the Retirement Services division and later held managerial positions with actuarial teams throughout the company.

He attained the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1998 and is a graduate of Central Washington University.

"I am very honored to be named to this position," says Brooks. "Having worked in almost every actuarial unit here at Symetra, I know first-hand the strong talent on our team and I'm excited to continue working closely with my colleagues to build on our success."

"With Tommie's history of pricing Symetra's products and managing multiple areas of our actuarial staff,” says Meister, “he has gained a tremendous amount of experience and a solid understanding of our business."
