The Hartford Appoints Smyth

Simsbury, Conn. — The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., appointed Peter Smyth senior VP and director of strategy, development and operations for International Wealth Management.

Smyth is responsible for advancing The Hartford’s strategy for international growth and expansion, developing and implementing business plans for entering new markets, and setting the strategy for information technology and customer service support. In addition to his strategic role, Smyth is responsible for The Hartford’s joint venture in Brazil, Icatu Hartford, which markets life insurance, retirement and savings products. The Hartford has international operations in Japan, the United Kingdom and Brazil.

Smyth, whose office is in Simsbury, Conn., reports to Liz Zlatkus, co-COO of Hartford Life Inc., a subsidiary of The Hartford, and president of International Wealth Management and Group Benefits.

“Peter comes to The Hartford with more than a decade of international management experience,” Zlatkus says. “He has extensive expertise in global business development and management that will be a tremendous asset as we look to capitalize on future international growth opportunities.”

Smyth comes to The Hartford from ING Asia Pacific in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for managing operations in Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Thailand. Previously, he held a variety of roles at Legal & General Asia, including director of business development.
