USAA Adds Citi's Heather Cox as First CTDO

Heather Cox has been named USAA's first chief technology and digital officer (CTDO), a newly created position for the former head of Citigroup’s Citi FinTech unit

Cox will report to CEO Stuart Parker, leading a team that includes information technology, digital strategy & operations, and experience design. The move was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

“Our members deserve world-class experiences whenever and however they interact with USAA,” said Parker, in a statement released by USAA. “Heather’s appointment reinforces our service commitment in fast-moving areas like digital, technology and user experience. She’s the right leader to take us where we’re going.”

“USAA is known for innovating and delivering an excellent member experience for the military community. I can’t wait to join the team,” Cox said in the statement.

Known for her digital innovation, Cox was named one of five 2015 Digital Bankers of the Year by INN's sister brand Bank Technology News for her efforts to help Citi “adopt a modern attitude toward technology amid mounting regulatory and risk obstacles.” Cox was also honored as one of American Banker's "Women to Watch" in 2011 and 2013.

Prior to her role at Citigroup, which she took over last October, Cox served as their firm’s chief client-experience, digital and marketing officer for the global consumer bank. Before Citi, Cox was head of card operations at Capital One.
