USAA joins with Honda on driver coaching

Multiline insurer USAA is among the several partners for Honda's new Dream Drive platform.

The insurer will work with Honda to help develop a safe-driving coaching service for the in-car technology platform. While the development is still in the early phase, Randy Termeer, SVP and GM of auto insurance for the company says the goal is to help all drivers, and that the resulting offering won't necessarily be linked to the driver's insurance coverage.

"If you are a Honda driver, USAA wants to be that coach in the on-screen dashboard that will facilitate safe driving," Termeer explains. "We're thinking about how we can do things outside the auto insurance experience to help improve safety on the roads."

Honda's Dream Drive incorporates driver and passenger 'infotainment,' as well as payment services and other commercial applications. Other launch partners working on various services range from the retail to affinity world, including AAA, Chevron, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Grubhub and Yelp.

"The collaboration with Honda is really a continued expansion of our mission in safety and prevention," Termeer adds. "We want to lean into the innovation around in-vehicle experience and shape the driving behavior of families."
